Staff will be recruited in all medical colleges to meet international standards and ensure quality healthcare for the residents of the state, said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu after inaugurating the first cultural night of the five-day International Renuka Ji Fair in Sirmaur district late Monday evening. He also released a commemorative souvenir of Shri Renuka Ji Vikas Board to mark the event, which celebrates the cultural and religious heritage of Himachal Pradesh.

He announced several initiatives to strengthen healthcare and educational infrastructure in the state. He said that the government had introduced free education for the children of widows to provide them with access to quality education and the resources needed to pursue their aspirations.

The Chief Minister alleged that public funds were misused during the tenure of the previous BJP-led government for political gains. He said that Rs 5,000 crore was distributed as “freebies” to influence elections, while institutions were set up without adequate finances. “Public funds should be used for people’s welfare, not political agendas,” he added.

He claimed that industries in Himachal Pradesh were now receiving electricity at rates 50 paise less than in neighbouring states, which enhances the state’s competitiveness in attracting investment.

Sukhu, while addressing the gathering, emphasised the significance of the Renuka Ji Fair, describing it as a crucial symbol of the union between Lord Parshuram and Mata Renuka. “This fair holds immense religious value and represents the rich cultural traditions of Himachal Pradesh,” he said. He underscored the government’s commitment to the development and welfare of Sirmaur district and assured people of continued efforts to promote inclusive growth.

He said the government had recently decided to grant reservation to the Hattee community and the decision was taken within 12 hours of necessary formalities being fulfilled. He reassured the public that the government stands firmly behind the Hattees in any legal challenge and engage top legal representatives on its behalf. “The government is committed to ensuring fair representation and equal opportunities for all communities in Himachal,” he added.

Sukhu praised the state’s efforts in improving governance and public services. He said that the government had organised revenue lok adalats to resolve long-pending cases, benefiting over two lakh families across the state, including more than 13,000 cases in Sirmaur district. “The state government is focused on public welfare and has launched schemes aimed at improving the lives of our citizens,” he added.

Shimla MP Suresh Kashyap and MLAs Sukhram Choudhary and Reena Kashyap extended their greetings to the Chief Minister and expressed their support to the government’s initiatives. Nahan MLA Ajay Solanki praised the Chief Minister’s performance in the past two years and cited Sukhu’s role in managing natural disasters, economic challenges and political obstacles. “The Opposition has no real issues to raise and is preoccupied with trivial matters,” he alleged, expressing confidence in the government’s vision for the state.

Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner Sumit Khimta, who is also the Chairman of the Mela Committee, honoured the Chief Minister and outlined various activities planned for the fair.
