Will tweak rules in shooting: ISSF president
The sport of shooting will undergo a few changes before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) president Luciano Rossi, who is in New Delhi to attend the World Cup Finals, said it was important to make the sport spectator friendly.
“For the first time in history the shooting events were held outside the main host city. It gave us an impression that the sport could lose out but it is not the case as we have a very good relationship with the IOC,” Rossi said.
“But we realise that we need to bring a few changes but at the same time stay connected with the sport. So we are bringing in a few changes in rules which will be implemented around the World Championships that will be held in 2026,” he added.
When pressed further about what changes, Rossi said they may make all the finals eight-shooter competitions. A few of the disciplines, including trap and 25m, have only six shooters competing for the three podium places.
“The point I am making is that the sport has to be made more exciting for the crowd. In Chateauroux, I could sense the excitement in the crowd when two shooters went into a shoot-off so that is the basis of all this. We have to move forward but at the same time not forget about the sport,” he said.
Junior WC in India
Rossi also declared that they are in talks with the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) about hosting two major championships. The ISSF president hinted that a Junior World Cup could be held next year and that India is also in with a chance to hold an Olympics quota event for the 2028 Summer Games.
