Turkish Yusuf Dikec, 51, came, shot and won Olympics Silver, world stunned at his ease of shooting
Chandigarh, August 2
Turkish air pistol shooter, Yusuf Dikec, captured the attention of shooting fans worldwide by winning a Silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games.
Known for the extensive gear typically worn by shooters, including specialised glasses and ear-protectors, Dikec brought limited gear to the competition.
The 51-year-old shooter, who is participating in his fifth Olympic Games, opted for regular prescription glasses and earplugs, shunning the advanced equipment worn by his competitors. Despite this, Dikec, alongside his partner Sevval Ilayda Tarhan, delivered a stellar performance in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, securing a Silver medal.
Social media erupted with admiration for Dikec’s achievement. In a viral image, he is seen casually rolling up to the shooting line, one hand in his pocket, aiming his pistol, and executing precise shots.

The final of the event was a nail-biter, with Serbia mounting a dramatic comeback to win the Gold medal. Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec overcame a deficit into a 16-14 victory over Dikec and Tarhan. Meanwhile, India’s Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won the bronze medal in the same event.
