India’s Lakshya Sen battled hard against China’s Lu Guang Zu but ultimately lost 21-12 19-21 14-21 to make an early exit from the Denmark Open Super 750 badminton tournament. PV Sindhu moved into the second round after her opponent Pai Yu Po of Chines Taipei retired midway in the second game. Malvika Bansod lost to Nguyen Thuy Linh 13-21 12-21, while Aakarshi Kashyap lost 13-21 12-21 to Supanida Katethong.

Udita attracts highest bid in women’s HIL auction

Indian defender Udita Duhan emerged as the costliest buy at the Hockey India League women’s auction after she was acquired by Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers for Rs 32 lakh here on Tuesday. Dutch star drag-flicker Yibbi Janssen was the second most expensive player and was bought by Odisha Warriors for Rs 29 lakh. India captain Salima Tete (Rs 20 lakh) was picked up by Odisha Warriors.

Ashalata to play 100th international match

Captain Ashalata Devi will become the first Indian woman footballer to play 100 international matches when she takes the field in the SAFF Championship opening match against Pakistan here on Thursday. The 31-year-old Manipuri defender made her India debut against Bangladesh in March 2011.

Tuchel set to become new England manager

Former Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has reportedly signed a contract to become the new England manager. The German is set to become the third foreign manager to take charge of the England men’s team, after Sweden’s Sven-Goran Eriksson and Italian Fabio Capello.
