Chasing 166 for victory, MI were bowled out for 111 in 18.1 overs. When Patel came on to bowl the 17th over, MI were already deep in trouble at 105/5, requiring another 61 off 24 balls. However, at crease were big hitters Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard, and MI still had a slim hope. But Pandya was beaten by a slower ball as he slogged, the ball took the leading edge of his bat and Virat Kohli completed the catch running back at extra cover. Next ball Pollard too was beaten by a slower ball as he tried to swing to the leg side and was bowled. Patel completed the hat-trick when, with yet another slower ball, he struck Rahul Chahar on the pads for a clear LBW.
