Chandigarh, July 9

As Rahul Dravid bids farewell to Team India with a glorious T20 World Cup triumph last month, skipper Rohit Sharma penned a heartfelt note for him on Tuesday, “to properly express his feelings”.

Taking to Instagram, Rohit described how he adored Dravid since childhood days and looked up to the ‘stalwart’ of the game. He also called Dravid his “confidant, coach and friend”.

“Since my childhood days I have looked up to you just like billions of others but I was lucky enough to get to work with you this closely”, said Rohit.

“You are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you. That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time,” said the ‘Hitman’, in what he termed as an attempt to express his feelings to ‘The Wall’.

The India skipper further revealed that his wife referred Dravid as “work wife” to him.

“I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished. My wife refers to you as my work wife and I’m lucky to get to call you that too”, Rohit said in the post.

Talking about the T20 World Cup glory, Rohit said, “This was the only thing missing from your arsenal and I’m so happy that we got to achieve it together.”

“Rahul bhai it has been an absolute privilege to get to call you my confidant, my coach and my friend”, concluded Rohit.

Dravid had recently said that during his tenure as head coach, he abhorred chopping and changing the side too much and always tried to be a foil for skipper Rohit Sharma so that he could devise his own winning strategies.

Dravid also said had he not received a phone call from Rohit Sharma, requesting him to continue after the ODI World Cup final defeat against Australia, he wouldn’t have been a part of history.

Dravid’s coaching stint came to an end with India winning the T20 World Cup in Barbados on June 29, defeating South Africa and bringing home the trophy for the second time after 2007.
