LISBON, August 13
Paris St Germain scored two late goals, including a stoppage-time winner from substitute Eric Choupo-Moting, to beat outsiders Atalanta 2-1 and end the Serie A side’s Champions League dream in their quarterfinal yesterday.
Champions League Quarterfinals
- Paris SG 2-1 Atalanta
- Marquinhos 90 Pasalic 27’
- Choupo-Moting 90+3
Atalanta, in their first Champions League campaign, went ahead with a curling effort from Mario Pasalic in the 27th minute and held out until the 90th when Brazilian defender Marquinhos equalised for the French champions. With Atalanta wilting, Choupo-Moting turned the ball home in the third minute of added time to end Qatari-backed PSG’s embarrassing run of recent quarterfinal and Round of 16 exits and send them into the last-four for the first time since 1995. — Reuters
Battle of past champions
Lisbon: The two former champions still left in the Champions League have to face each other for a chance to end their title drought in Europe. Lionel Messi will lead Barcelona against Robert Lewandowski and Bayern Munich in tomorrow’s high-profile quarterfinal. Both are five-time champions, and both are in the quarterfinals for a record 18th time, but Barcelona’s last title was in 2015 and Bayern last won in 2013. AP
