New Delhi, July 4
Finally arriving home after a 14-hour journey, the Indian cricket team soaked in all the adulation as it made its way from the Indira Gandhi International Airport to the ITC Maurya Sheraton, where the team was housed.
Skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav broke into a dance with bhangra dancers to the beat of the dhols to start the victory procession.
Amidst the celebrations, the team was invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his 7 Lok Kalyan Marg residence for breakfast. Coach Rahul Dravid, BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah were also present during the two-hour interaction.
“An excellent meeting with our Champions! Hosted the World Cup winning team at 7, LKM and had a memorable conversation on their experiences through the tournament,” the PM posted online.
It is understood that the PM asked Suryakumar about his match-winning catch to dismiss David Miller in the last over of the final. The PM also had a lengthy discussion with all-rounder Axar Patel.
“What a great honour meeting our honourable prime minister… Thank you sir for inviting us to the prime minister’s residence,” Virat Kohli posted online.
Jasprit Bumrah, who was adjudged the Player of the Tournament, also shared pictures of the team and his family with the PM. “It was an honour to be invited to our honourable Prime Minister’s residence this morning. Thank you so much for your warmth and hospitality sir,” he posted online.
