AITA holds poll, no-confidence motion withdrawn
The All-India Tennis Association (AITA) elections were held without any disturbances as a new executive was elected. However as per the Delhi High Court directive the results were not declared.
The election had taken a dramatic turn as a number of member states wanted to bring a no-confidence motion against the outgoing president Anil Jain. However, Jain hit back that the motion cannot be entertained as the notice period for such action, which was 21 days, was not followed as per the rules. Early on Saturday, those eight state bodies, backed by another 14, withdrew the motion and the secret voting was conducted.
Elections became a heated affair after Jain, a former BJP MP was alleged to have spent around Rs 58 lakh from federation’s coffers to travel around the world with his wife.
“The AGM was held without any disturbances as the no confidence motion was withdrawn,” said a newly elected member of the new executive.
