Punjab Speaker: Water, sewage getting mixed, separate channels needed
Chandigarh, March 4
Pointing out no separate handling of drinking water and sewage in the drains of towns and cities to be a major problem all over Punjab, Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said, “They are mixing with each other, causing harm to the public. The government needs to work out separate channels for drinking water and sewage”.
The issue came up after reply to a question raised by Amritsar (North) MLA Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh with regard to the pitiable condition of the population living in the vicinity of Tung Dhab (rivulet). “It has become difficult for people to breathe normally. Public health is affected. Most of residents are suffering,” Kunwar Vijay Pratap said.
Minister for Water Resources Chetan Singh Jauramajra replied, “The issue involves the Local Government Department. I will take up the matter with the minister and we will also involve Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh to find out a solution. In fact, even a common man also needs to play his role.”
