Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania today presided over a meeting to review preparations for potential disasters and hazards during the monsoon season.

During the meeting, extensive discussions were held regarding the preparations made by various departments. Representatives from the Public Works Department, Jal Shakti Department, Electricity Department, Food and Civil Supplies Department, National Highways, Police Department, Education Department and district hydropower projects participated in the discussions.

The Speaker directed officials of the Public Works Department, national highways and Chamba Municipal Council to ensure that drains and other water channels were cleaned to facilitate adequate drainage in towns and other areas during the rainy season.

He also instructed the Health Department officials to ensure that there was adequate storage of essential medicines and vehicles used for the transportation of patients were well maintained.

Pathania further instructed all Subdivisional Officers in the district to ensure that the warning systems in hydropower projects were functioning within their respective areas.

He emphasised the importance of using siren warning systems, public address systems and social media to communicate disaster-related warnings to the people through local representatives.

At the meeting, potential challenges and hazards related to various departments during the rainy season and the necessary measures taken to prevent these were also reviewed. Additionally, several other important points related to disaster prevention and mitigation were discussed in detail.
