A review meeting for the Prime Minister Surya Ghar free electricity scheme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan on Monday, focusing on the successful implementation of the initiative in the district. The scheme aims to develop a village with a population of over 2,000 as an ‘Ideal Solar Village’, with a budget of Rs 1 cr.

During the meeting, it was announced that villages would compete for the selection of the Ideal Solar Village over a six-month period.

The DC highlighted the government’s subsidy of Rs 33,000 per kW for rooftop solar power plants with capacities up to 3 kW. An additional subsidy of Rs 19,800 is available for each kW above 2 kW. Residents can register online on the PM Surya Ghar portal to take advantage of this scheme, which allows them to utilise the electricity generated from their rooftops for free.
