Jalandhar: Commerce Club of PG Department of Commerce and Management of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organised a skilled course certificate programme in Personality Development and Soft Skills Training in collaboration with Swinki Singhal and Associates. Programme started with Gayatri Mantra to seek blessings of Almighty. The session began with formal welcome and green greetings by Coordinator Binoo Gupta, Dean Student Welfare Shefali Kashyap and In charges Skill Programme Kanika Sharma. Binoo Gupta, Coordinator of the programme, briefed that such programmes aimed at enabling students to explore their hidden potential and helps in grooming their personality. Total 72 students from BCom and BBA participated in the programme. Various training sessions were conducted by CA Swinki Singhal. Students were guided on time management, stress management, goal setting and public speaking. Practical knowledge was imparted through mock telephonic conversation, role plays and group discussion. They were also told about wardrobe management, corporate readiness, handling and surviving in corporate environment. Students were involved through various fun activities and video clips to provide experiential learning. Students Mehak, Deepali, Apoorva and Diksha were honoured by Swinki Singhal for their active participation. On the valedictory day Principal Prof Dr Ajay Sareen congratulated the participants and the organising committee.

World Food Safety Day celebrated

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya Collegiate Sr Sec School in collaboration with NSS unit and Department of Student Welfare celebrated World Food Safety Day with full zeal and enthusiasm. The theme of the celebration was ‘Safer food, better health’. It aimed at drawing attention and inspiring actions to help prevent, detect and manage food-borne risks, thus contributing to food security. The students prepared informative and colourful charts and posters to depict the importance of healthy and balanced diet as everyone has a role to play from farm to table to ensure the food we consume is safe and healthy. Principal Prof (Dr) Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated all the participants and averred that it is important people should be aware about the healthy food habits so that they may lead a healthy and happy life.

Music album released

Padma Bhushan Dr Barjinder S Hamdard engrossed the audience with his outstanding and soothing live performance in the premises of CT Group of Institutions. It was the occasion of his launch of 19th music album titled Chetar Da Vanjara. People from all walks of life like entertainment, politics, industry, medical and education etc attended this event. The names of the guests included CT Group Chairman Charanjit S Channi, Co-Chairperson Parminder Kaur Channi, Managing Director Dr Manbir Singh, Tanika Singh, Vice Chairman Harpreet Singh, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, Advocate Prem Singh, Gurcharan Singh Syal, Ramesh Mittal, Sheetal Vij, Anil Chopra, Satish Jain, Promila Arora, Professor Kulbir Singh, Dr Avinash Chander, Iqbal Singh, Advocate Mandeep Walia, Dr Jaspal Singh, Dr Harprit Singh, Rakesh Rathore and PS Bawa etc. Audience remained mesmerised throughout the event by Dr Hamdard’s melodious voice. More than 250 people attended the event.

Foraying into film world

The children of DIPS chain are making their mark not only in TV but also in the film world. Principal of Dips School, Bhogpur, Gurveen Kaur, said that five-year-old Gantavya Sharma is a student of KG class who is making her mark in the TV and film world. Recently, he has acted in advertisement presented by Disney Star to save the environment on World Environment Day. His mother Natasha Sharma told that she had a passion from the beginning that her child should make his mark in the field of acting. Therefore, after going to Mumbai three years ago, he gave Gantavya portfolio in many agencies, after that he got calls for advertisement but now he gets calls to act in films and programmes. Father Naveen Kumar said Gantavya Sharma has been seen in the Ethnic and Winter Wear collection advertisement of First Cry. Now soon he is playing the role of a child in a Nestle Nangrow print advertisement and a film directed by Seema Desai. He will also be seen in web series produced by Anushka Sharma and directed by Randeep Jha. This web series will be shown on Netflix.

Open House Meet organised

IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) has started an open house meeting hour with students, especially with hostel students. The aim of this open house meet is to get feedback on university initiatives, establish direct contact and exploration on new ideas. The first programme with the aim of “Open House for Betterment” with the students by the top officials of the university was prepared by Dr SK Mishra, Registrar of the University. This effort is being done on the directions of the Vice Chancellor Rahul Bhandari. The students of five hostels (both boys and girls) were invited by the university in the first open house meeting. Students shared their views on academic excellence, digital facilities, and initiatives in university hostels. They also shared about new approaches for training and placements, and initiatives to increase direct access of necessary requirements. Registrar, Dr SK Mishra, said the top officials of the university aims to provide quality education to its students as well as better environment in every way in the university.

Day against child labour observed

The World Day Against Child Labour was observed in Eklavya School. Chairman of Eklavya School JK Gupta spread awareness to eradicate child labour. The World Day against Child Labour is an International Labour Organisation (ILO) day aimed to raise awareness and activism to prevent Child Labour. Director of Eklavya School Seema Handa explicated that illiteracy is the root cause for child labour, as it not only affects the children both mentally and physically but also destroys the future of children. In our school, different activities were conducted by students of all wings. Children of class IX performed a beautiful song on World day against child labour. Children of class 10th and 11th gave speech on World day against child labour. The principal of our school Komal Arora appreciated the speech given by children. Children around the world routinely engaged in paid and unpaid forms of work that are not harmful to them. However they are classified as child labourers when they are either too young to work or are in involved in hazardous activities that may comprise their physical mental, social and educational development. Administrator Dimple Malhotra said it’s important to eliminate child labour from the society.

New course at LPU

Seminar on biotechnology organised

A one-day seminar was organised by the Department of Biotechnology of HMV College on the topic “Biotechnology in Investigating Gut-Brain Axis”. The Resource Person for the day was Dr Gazal Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Food Science and Technology, IKG Punjab Technical University, Kapurthala. She explained in her lecture that micro flora of stomach effects the functioning of brain. She further added the significance of diet components on the growth and development of bacteria in stomach. She stressed the need to consume probiotics such as yoghurt, curd etc. and discuss the various brain diseases such as headache, migraine pain etc. can be prevented by the use of different natural health supplements. In the end Dr Jitender Kumar, Head of Biotechnology Department, gave a vote of thanks to the guest and others who had helped in organising the seminar. Principal Dr Ajay Sareen congratulated the department and honoured the resource person. Faculty members Dr Anjana Bhatia, Dr Harpreet Singh, Purnima Sharma, Dr Nitika Arora, Ramandeep Kaur, Harpreet Kaur and Sumit Sharma were also present on the occasion.

North Zone Ball Badminton contest

St Soldier Group of Institution organised North Ball Badminton Championship in association with State Amateur Ball Badminton Association Punjab and District Ball Badminton Association Jalandhar. Boys and girls teams from Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, NCR, Himachal etc participated. Anil Chopra, Chairman, St Soldier Group, General Secretary, State Amateur Ball Badminton Association, Punjab, Principal Balwinder Singh were specially present, who were welcomed by the Managing Director Prof Manhar Arora, staff members and students. Among boys, Chandigarh team got first, Haryana second and Uttar Pradesh third. Among girls, NCR got first, Punjab second, Haryana third and Chandigarh fourth. Chairman Chopra while felicitating the players said that the youth were motivated to participate in maximum sports.
