The Manali-Leh highway was blocked to traffic beyond Darcha towards Leh due to fresh snowfall at Baralacha Pass in the Lahaul and Spiti district since yesterday. The fresh snowfall has created hazardous conditions on the road, hampering the movement of vehicles between Darcha and Sarchu.

Authorities have issued a travel advisory, urging the public and tourists to avoid traveling along this stretch of the highway as conditions have become unsafe due to snow accumulation and icing on the road, especially in the shadowed areas. The police and local administration have emphasised the importance of following these instructions to prevent any potential accidents or incidents in the region.

According to reports, the fresh snowfall at Baralacha Pass, a major mountain pass on the Manali-Leh highway, has led to slippery conditions on the roads. The snow has not only obstructed traffic but also made travel extremely difficult for vehicles attempting to cross the pass. The icing in certain areas of the road has further complicated the situation, with vehicles at risk of skidding and getting stuck.

Authorities are working on clearing the snow and making the road passable, but as of now, the situation remains challenging. The advisory stresses that travellers should consider alternative routes or delay their journey until conditions improve. Tourists planning to travel to Leh via the Manali-Leh highway are particularly urged to check for real-time weather updates and road conditions before embarking on the journey.

The advisory also highlights the importance of adhering to the guidance of local police and administration. Travellers are encouraged to remain in touch with local authorities for updates on road conditions. Given the unpredictable nature of mountain weather, it is advised that travellers prioritise their safety and take precautions when traveling in the region.
