Snatchers’ gang busted in Jalandhar, 2 land in police dragnet

The police claimed to have busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of two of its members. The police also recovered a motorcycle, a machete (datar) and cash from their possession.
Divulging details, the police said four masked men, who were carrying machetes, snatched Rs 4,200 from a person, Dhani Ram, near Guru Ravidas Chowk here around 6:15 am on February 16. Acting on the victim’s complaint, the police registered a case against the suspects under Sections 379-B and 34 of the IPC and started investigations into the matter.
During investigation, the police arrested two persons – Kiranpreet Singh, alias Chitta, and Hardev Singh, alias Happy, both residents of Khurla Khingra here – from Ravindra Day Boarding School T-point,
New Jawahar Nagar. They recovered a motorcycle used in the crime, a machete (datar), and Rs 1,000 from the suspects.
“Raids are being conducted to nab other members of the gang. Kiranpreet Singh has a criminal past as three cases are already registered against him at various police stations in Jalandhar,” the police said, adding that further investigations were on in the case.
