Smriti Irani launches BJP membership drive in Delhi
Former Union Minister Smriti Irani kicked off her three-day organisational visit to Delhi as part of the BJP’s 2024 membership campaign, addressing party workers across three districts—Naveen Shahdara, Karol Bagh, and New Delhi—on Sunday.
Irani, who is spearheading the party’s drive to bolster its ranks ahead of the 2024 elections, emphasised the importance of reaching out to citizens and sharing the BJP’s message at the grassroots level. “Today, after participating in the BJP’s national membership campaign, I am satisfied to see extensive welfare work being done for the poor across the country due to the party’s organisation and government,” she said.

At the meetings, Irani provided guidance on how party workers should communicate with the public while taking the membership campaign door to door. “Looking at India’s achievements on the global stage and the country’s infrastructure development, I am delighted to see a large number of citizens joining the BJP and becoming members,” she added.
Prominent BJP leaders who joined Irani during the meetings included Delhi state organisational general secretary Pavan Rana, MP Bansuri Swaraj, state general secretary Vishnu Mittal, senior leader Moolchand Chawla, MLA Jitendra Mahajan, and state vice presidents Lata Gupta and Vinay Rawat.
The district meetings were presided over by local heads—Manoj Tyagi (Naveen Shahdara), Sunil Kakkar (Karol Bagh) and Rajeev Rana (New Delhi). Meanwhile, during the slum expansion campaign, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva noted growing dissatisfaction among slum dwellers with the Kejriwal government.
“People in slum clusters are joining BJP because they are disappointed with the Kejriwal government and believe the BJP can bring development to their areas,” Sachdeva said. He criticised the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) for failing to implement welfare programmes for slum areas.
Campaign held in 252 slum clusters
The Delhi BJP on Sunday launched a large-scale membership drive across 252 slum clusters as part of its ongoing slum expansion campaign. Led by senior BJP leaders including Union Minister Harsh Malhotra and Delhi BJP co-in-charge Alka Gurjar, the initiative saw enthusiastic participation from slum residents.
