Small flat scheme: 26 slum-dwellers from colonies allotted houses in Chandigarh
Chandigarh, January 20
A computerised draw for the allotment of dwelling units to eligible residents of Colony No. 4 was held on the premises of the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) here today.
As many as 21 residents of the colony were declared eligible by the Estate Office for the allotment of flats under the small flat scheme. They were considered for allotment at the Housing Complex, Maloya.
Similarly, five residents of other colonies were declared eligible by the Estate Office for the
allotment of flats under the small flat scheme. They were considered for allotment at the Housing Complex, Mauli Jagran, and Dhanas.
However, only one applicant was declared eligible under the Oustee Scheme. He was considered for the allotment of EWS flat in Sector 49.
The draw was held under the supervision of Jagjit Singh, Additional Secretary, UT.
With an aim of making the city slum-free by March this year, the Administration is all set to get the dwellers evicted from the last slum of the city, Colony No. 4, after the winter season.
UT Adviser Dharam Pal said all eligible slum-dwellers would be rehabilitated under the Affordable Rental Housing Scheme of the Central Government. However, all those who did not meet the eligibility criteria would be asked to go after the winter chill subsides.
