Nawanshahr February 22
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), trade unions, employee and other organisations staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here today.
Addressing the dharna, Kirti Kisan Union district president Surinder Singh Bains, Jamhuri Kisan Sabha leader Kuldeep Singh Runka, Malkit Singh Rahon of Doaba Kisan Union, Bharti Kisan Union (Lakhowal) leader Avtar Singh Sadhra, IFTU state deputy secretary Avtar Singh Tari and Women’s Jagriti Manch state president Gurbaksh Kaur Sangha said they want the government to listen to their demands and act fast.
The unions said there was a long-pending struggle to ensure that the government assured MSP for every crop.
“Stop installation of smart electricity meters, stop privatisation of government institutions and waive off entire debt of farmers and labourers. We also demand that the government should provide jobs to families of farmers martyred in the Kisan Morcha,” union members said.
The leaders said the Central Government was deceitful. The Bachhwan and Behram toll plazas of the district were also freed for commuters by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha.
