Nahan, August 9

A district-level Road Safety Committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional District Magistrate (ADM) LR Verma at the Deputy Commissioner’s office today. The meeting focused on enhancing road safety measures in the district.

ADM Verma emphasised the need for strict enforcement of traffic rules by the Departments of Transport and Police. He highlighted that the increasing number of vehicles had led to a rise in accidents, making it essential to work on three key areas — raising awareness among drivers, preventing illegal parking on roads and taking punitive action against traffic violators.

Verma pointed out the importance of addressing illegal parking at key locations in the city, including Nahan Cantt School and Library Chowk near the hospital. He instructed officials to take strict action against those responsible for illegal parking in these areas.

Verma directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to install signboards displaying speed limits and emergency medical service contact numbers. He also suggested the installation of CCTV cameras at critical points on main roads.

The meeting also discussed the identification of black spots — locations prone to accidents. Verma added that 566 black spots have been identified on various roads in the district by the PWD, while 17 black spots have been marked on national highways. The ADM urged the Departments of Police, Health and Education, along with the Road Safety Club, to organise road safety awareness campaigns in educational institutions.

The session concluded with a renewed commitment to improving road safety through coordinated efforts among various departments.
