Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh announced significant development projects worth Rs 300 crore in Shimla Rural constituency, including Rs 190 crore allocated for upgrading roads, building bridges and paving. Vikramaditya, attending a ceremony as chief guest, revealed that the Government Senior Secondary School in Bychadi is being renamed in honour of Shaheed Subedar Ved Prakash, who died heroically in the 1999 Kargil conflict.

Subedar Ved Prakash, originally from the Bychadi area, joined the 16th Dogra Regiment in 1976 and served the nation for 24 years, showcasing remarkable courage until he lost his life during Operation Vijay. Posthumously awarded several honours, including the Shaurya Chakra by then-President KR Narayanan in 2000, Ved Prakash received a tribute fitting his legacy through the renaming of his former school. The minister emphasised that this recognition celebrates the valour of Ved Prakash, who dedicated his life to protecting India’s borders.

Vikramaditya also outlined upcoming infrastructure projects, including the fourth phase of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, which will extend road access to underserved villages across Himachal Pradesh. Additionally, Vikramaditya highlighted an ambitious plan to attract investment for a “Himalayan City” in Jathia Devi, estimated at Rs 500 crore. Discussions are underway with the Central government to support this initiative.
