Shimla MC to start e-waste collection drive
Shimla, March 5
To make Shimla e-waste-free, the Municipal Corporation (MC) is gearing up to launch an e-waste collection drive across the 34 wards of the city.
Under the drive, the MC will carry out a door-to-door campaign to collect e-waste from the households. The drive will start from the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) centre in Chotta Shimla ward.
The civic body is also planning to set up an e-waste recycling plant across the city. For this, the MC has prepared a plan and at present, it is identifying a suitable place for the plant. The e-waste will be brought to the plant where it will be recycled and reused.
Shimla Mayor Surinder Chauhan said, “There are many broken electronic items, which are of no use. These items are either thrown along with the garbage or dumped in the open, which does not only affect the beauty of the city but also contaminate the environment.”
“With the availability of the RRR centres, people will be able to send e-waste materials to these centres from where the waste will be recycled and reused,” he added.
