Shimla law varsity reflects on ancient Bharat’s values
Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, recently celebrated Constitution Day (Samvidhan Divas) by honouring the visionary framers of the Constitution and exploring its deep-rooted connections to the ancient values of Bharat.
Justice Vivek Singh Thakur, Judge, High Court of Himachal Pradesh, other dignitaries, students and faculty were among those present at the event.
Justice Thakur’s address delved into the philosophical and ethical dimensions of the Constitution, tracing its roots to the ancient traditions of Bharat.
He explored how values such as dharma (righteousness), satya (truth) and ahimsa (non-violence) shaped the moral and ethical framework of the Constitution.
Justice Thakur talked about the relevance of these values in addressing contemporary challenges and ensuring the rule of law in modern governance.
In her welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Priti Saxena emphasised the significance of Constitution Day as an occasion to reflect on the democratic principles and values that form the backbone of the nation.
She highlighted the role of the university in fostering constitutional literacy and encouraging critical engagement with the ideas and principles enshrined in the Constitution.
