Prime Minister Narendra Modi took India out of policy paralysis and transformed India from the “fragile five” to a “bright spot” in the world, Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday.

Addressing the annual session of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here, Shah said in the last 10 years of the Modi government, even BJP’s opponents could not accuse it of corruption.

“Before 2014, everyone used to say that our country was suffering from policy paralysis and no policies were being made. PM Modi ended this and created numerous policies and brought in politics of performance. There is no sector where a permanent policy hasn’t been formulated. Earlier, India was amongst the ‘fragile five’, but today, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) calls us a ‘bright spot’ in the global economy,” Shah said.

He said the government had successfully eliminated terrorism and extremism which were major issues under the UPA. “During the previous government, terrorism and Naxalism had become severe issues for the country, but today we can confidently say that whether it’s Kashmir, Left-wing extremism-hit areas or the Northeast, we have successfully eliminated terrorism and extremism,” Shah said.

He said under Modi’s leadership, foundation had been laid for India to be at the forefront in every field over the next 25 years. The global investors who had lost confidence in India, today consider it to be a preferred destination, he said. Shah mentioned that in the ease of doing business rankings, India had scaled up to 63rd position from 142.
