A member of the SGPC, Hardev Singh Rogla, has been awarded ‘tankha’ (religious punishment) by the five high priests on the charges of praising controversial Dera Sirsa head Gurmeet Ram Rahim.
The Akal Takht Jathedar, Giani Raghbir Singh, pronounced the punishment. He was directed to perform sewa of cleaning utensils, sweeping the floor and recite ‘nitnem’ at any gurdwara in the vicinity of his house. He was also ordered to donate around Rs 1.25 lakh to a needy Gursikh family for the construction or repair of their house and deposit the receipt at the Takht.
After completion of the punishment, he will have to perform ardas, seeking apology at the Akal Takht.
