Sirsa MP and former Union Minister Kumari Selja has announced the commencement of “Congress Sandesh Yatra” from Ambala on July 27 which will focus on the Urban segments in the run-up to the Assembly elections in October.

The Selja faction has however clarified that this yatra was not part of the “Haryana Mange Hisaab” yatra being undertaken by former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state president Udai Bhan in the state. Though Hooda during an interview with The Tribune had mentioned that Selja was also holding her programme which was part of the (Haryana Mange Hisaab) yatra.

No hooda, bhan on official poster

  • Sirsa MP Kumari Selja on Thursday unveiled a poster of her yatra on her social media account which had no photos of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda, state Congress chief Udai Bhan and even party state incharge Deepak Babaria
  • Dr Ajay Chaudhary, a close aide of Selja, said the yatra would focus on urban segments

The Sirsa MP unveiled a poster of her yatra on her social media account today which had no photos of Hooda, Bhan or even Congress state incharge Deepak Babaria in it. Selja’s official poster has pictures of former Union Minister Birender Singh and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala.

Dr Ajay Chaudhary, a close aide of Selja, said their yatra was separate from ‘Haryana Mange Hisaab’ campaign. Dr Chaudhary, a member of the All-India Congress Committee, said Selja would reach almost all urban areas of the state. “She will convey the message of national president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi,” he said. As part of the yatra, a public meeting will be held in Barwala town of Hisar district on July 28.

Notably, Selja, along with Surjewala and former Congress leader Kiran Choudhry who recently switched over to the BJP, had also carried out a Jan Sandesh Yatra before the Lok Sabha elections from Hisar. Selja covered about 6-7 Lok Sabha segments except Rohtak and Sonepat. However, Choudhry left the Congress to join the BJP after her daughter was denied the LS ticket.

Though Selja was not inclined to join the Lok Sabha poll fray, she abided by the party’s decision to contest from the Sirsa Lok Sabha and won by a handsome margin of about 2.68 lakh votes.

The sources close to her said by chalking out a yatra plan, she had indicated that she would remain active in state politics. She had recently organised a thanksgiving rally in Uklana (Hisar district) after her victory, even though Uklana was not part of the Sirsa LS constituency.
