Harpreet Singh, a 24-year-old cybercrime expert from Balasar village in Sirsa district, ended his life just days before he was set to receive a presidential award for his outstanding achievements.

Harpreet, also known as Happy Dhot, worked at the Panchkula branch of cybercrime and was known for his expertise in solving complex cases. On the day of the incident, he was at his home in Balasar, engaged in a video conference on his laptop. His father, Sukhdev Singh, who serves as a granthi at a local gurudwara, said he had no idea what led his son to take this step.

Harpreet’s achievements had brought recognition to his family, which recently improved its financial situation. His sister is a government schoolteacher, and the family was in the process of purchasing 7 acres near their village.

Harpreet had used his turban to hang himself. The family only realised something was wrong after prolonged silence during the video conference on Monday.

The Rania police rushed Harpreet to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival. The reason behind his decision remain unclear.
