Seechewal seeks MEA intervention in bringing back 10 youths from Russia
Rajya Sabha member and environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewal has raised the issue of safe return of 10 Indian youths trapped in Russia. In a letter to Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar, Seechewal has sought the ministry’s intervention in bringing them back to India.
The letter mentions names of 10 Indians stuck in Russia. Nine of them are from Uttar Pradesh and one from Punjab.
Seechewal has also raised the demand with the government that the fraud being committed on Indian nationals by agents in Russia be prevented and their money (received in compensation by the Russian army) be restored to them.
Rakesh Yadav of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh recently called on Seechewal after his safe return from Russia. Some other families from UP also came with him to meet Seechewal who sought his help in bringing back their kin too.
In his letter, Seechewal says, “We are writing to you with grave concern about a serious issue involving Indian youths and children who are currently stuck in the Russian army, facing constant risk of death due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.”
Seechewal expressed apprehension that more Indian youths might be trapped in Russia. According to him, those trapped in Russia are Mandeep Singh from Goraya in Jalandhar and nine persons from UP, namely Vinod Yadav, Kanhaiya Yadav, Dheerendra Kumar, Ajaharuddin, Humeshwar Prasad, Deepak, Yogendra Yadav, Ramchandar and Arvind Kumar.
