Security arrangements have been beefed up ahead of elections in the mountainous districts of Doda and Kishtwar, where multiple encounters have taken place in the recent past.

Security forces are leaving no stone unturned to secure the polling stations in far-off areas of these two districts that have witnessed terror attacks this year. These districts were earlier comparatively peaceful than other parts of Jammu, especially Rajouri and Poonch district.

Recently, two Army soldiers were killed during an encounter in the Chhatroo area of Kishtwar. Acting on a tip-off, security forces launched a search operation in the forest area. However, the ultras ambushed an approaching party, which resulted in the death of two soldiers and injuries to injuries two others.

A senior police official said, “Elements inimical to the peace of people in J&K are trying their best to create trouble during the polling process to send out a message to the international community that things were not in order. This is the reason that we have received inputs regarding the presence of many ultras in the Doda-Kishtwar belt.”
