The recent rains have damaged most of the roads to an alarming extent in Sector 46, one of the largest sectors in the city, having a population of more than 30,000 persons.

The large potholes and craters cropped up on the main roads and streets are not only inconveniencing pedestrians but also posing serious risk to commuters riding two and four-wheelers.

Potholes on major roads have become a nightmare for commuters. Pedestrians struggle to walk through the roads safely due to the uneven surfaces. Drivers face challenges as they have to manoeuvre around potholes and deep craters, which increase the chances of accidents and vehicle damages.

Virendra Singh, a local resident, said they had made a number of complaints to senior officials of the Municipal Corporation but no one paid heed. The inaction on the part of the officials concerned has also aggravated frustration among residents demanding immediate attention to this pressing civic problem.

Now, with the festival season is round the corner, traffic on the roads and rush in the markets has increased; therefore, the MC authorities must wake up from their slumber and take immediate action to address the awful condition of roads, demanded Ashok Kumar, secretary of the Residents Welfare Association of the Jal Vihar Colony.

“The failure to repair the roads in time will not only increase problems for the residents but it will also reflect poorly on the efficiency and commitment of the civic authorities,” he said. The community centre road behind the HUDA market going towards the Jal Vihar Colony and Sector 51 side has also been damaged by the downpours.

Same is the condition of the main road, which passes in front of the HUDA market. Several other inner roads are also in a deplorable condition.

Chief Engineer of the Municipal Corporation, Gurugram, Manoj Kumar, said he had directed the civic body engineers to fill the potholes and repair all MCG roads on a war footing in the next couple of weeks, he said.
