Sector 17 traders flag poor upkeep of underground parking
Members of the Chandigarh Traders Association, Sector 17, met Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Commissioner of Municipal Corporation, to raise concerns regarding the Sector 17 multilevel parking facility.
Anticipating rush in the market during the Diwali festival, the existing parking spaces are expected to be fully occupied, and as a result, visitors will have to use the multilevel parking facility, stated association president Kamaljit Singh Panchhi and secretary Amit Jain.
Highlighting several key issues that remained unresolved for months at the multi-level parking, Panchhi stated the boom barrier at the entry had been out of service for months, and the receipt system is malfunctioning, causing confusion at the parking facility. He further pointed out that the parking area was littered with garbage, and an unpleasant odour made the facility uncomfortable for users.
The absence of security personnel at the parking was leaving vehicles and individuals vulnerable, particularly during late hours, he said, adding that lifts have also been out of order, causing difficulties for the elderly, disabled and those carrying heavy luggage.
The underground parking floors are poorly lit, creating an unsafe environment, especially during the evening and night, said Jain.
The delegation requested the DC for immediate action to address these issues and ensure the proper maintenance and management of the Sector 17 facility.
