Sector 10 blast accused get 4-day police remand
The two prime accused in the Sector 10 blast case have been brought from Punjab on production warrant by the UT police. They were produced in the local court today, which remanded them in four-day police custody.
Accused Rohan Masih, a resident of Passia village in Amritsar, and Vishal Masih, a resident of Batala, were held by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) of Punjab Police. On September 11, the two attackers had arrived at Sector 10 in an auto-rickshaw and lobbed a hand grenade at a retired principal’s house. The auto-driver, Kuldeep, was also nabbed by the Chandigarh Police few hours after the crime from outside the ISBT, Sector 43.
The police said a retired Punjab Police officer, Jaskirat Singh Chahal, was the target, but he had moved out of the Sector 10 house, where he used to stay on rent. Police believe the motive behind the attack was revenge for the death of four youths killed in police firing in 1986 at Nakodar. Chahal was SHO at that time.
The grenade blast was allegedly orchestrated by Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and USA-based Harpreet Singh.
