Late in the evening, the police had to fire several rounds into the air in Khanpur village when people protesting against the election result pelted stones on the vehicles of SDM and the police.

A group that had lost the election of sarpanch protested against the election results in Khanpur village of Garhshankar area.

They forcibly stopped the polling party and didn’t allow them to leave. When a police party reached there, the group reportedly stopped the police party too. On getting information, SDM Garhshankar reached there and tried to persuade the group. When the SDM tried to take the polling party along from there, the protesters laid down before his vehicle. The police had to use mild force to disperse them.

Meanwhile, when the police were trying to evacuate the vehicles of SDM Harbans Singh and other employees, the people present there started pelting stones on the SDM’s and police vehicles after which the police fired several rounds into the air.

The SDM told reporters that the women candidates who came at the second and third place tried to create obstacles in the election process. “They were making unconstitutional demands which could not be fulfilled. We received information that the police party which had gone to Khanpur village to accompany the polling party was stopped by some people of the village. So I reached there with the police officers,” he said, adding that strict action would be taken against the guilty as per the law.
