Screening camps to be held to provide assistive devices in Chamba

From Sept 25 to 27 for differently-abled persons, senior citizens

Chamba Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal on Thursday said the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), Mohali, Punjab, under the National Hydro Power Corporation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and supported by the district administration, would be organising screening camps to provide artificial limbs and assistive devices to differently-abled persons and senior citizens.

The camps will be organised at the District Welfare Officer’s office, Karian, on September 25; the Gram Panchayat Office, Bharmour, on September 26; and the Resident Commissioner’s Office, Killar, in Pangi on September 27.

Devices such as wheelchairs, cycles, motorised tricycles, crutches and walking sticks would be provided free of charge to eligible beneficiaries, the DC added. However, screenings for eyeglasses and dental devices would not be conducted during these camps, he said.

Differently-abled individuals with a disability of 40 per cent or more could participate and avail of the benefits, he added, stating that they must bring a copy of their Unique Disability ID (UDID) and a disability certificate issued by a district medical board, the Chief Medical Officer or any competent authority.

Additionally, three passport-sized photographs, a copy of their Aadhaar card and an income certificate issued by their employer, Gram Panchayat head, Tehsildar or competent authority were required, he said.

The monthly income of the applicant should not exceed Rs 22,500.

Those who do not have a UDID card could apply online through the Swavlamban portal at http://www.swavlambancard.gov.in/pwd/application or through the Lok Mitra Kendra.

Senior citizens, aged 60 years or above, are also eligible to participate.

Those eligible for the initiative must provide an income certificate, passport-sized photograph and a copy of their Aadhaar card.
