Students from government and private schools feel elated as the winter break is set to commence from December 24-31.
The students, especially from classes X and XII, needed this break as they will be free from their Board exams, which were conducted for the first time in November/December both by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Punjab State Education Board (PSEB).
The students have already made their plans to celebrate Christmas with friends in hotels and private parties. At the same time, parents have expressed concern as kids are still not vaccinated and Omicron threat looms large.
Namita, a parent, said she is worried over the parties being organised by her son and friends. “Children were occupied and stressed for the past two months due to the Board exams. They want relaxation and space, but we cannot let them go anywhere in jam-packed areas because they are not vaccinated and the third wave is pretty obvious,” she added.
But the children look adamant on organising parties. Mishthi, a student of a reputed school, said, “We really need a break, both mentally and physically, because we are exhausted. The new pattern is keeping us busy throughout the year. We have made our plans where 100-125 youngsters will gather and enjoy the Christmas party at a farm house on December 25.”
Meanwhile, the city doctors are also of the opinion that vaccination above 12 years should begin. Dr GS Grewal, a physician, said the government should allow the vaccination of children. They are not vaccinated and exposure to the virus could prove dangerous, he added.
