As uncertainty over resumption of classes in schools prevails many parents are preferring to shift their wards to government schools in order to avoid paying hefty fees charged by private schools. Taking this as a positive sign, teachers in government schools maintain that government schools in the state have improved tremendously in the past few years and were no less than private ones.

Admissions for various classes in government schools in the state began yesterday. To enroll more students in government schools, the Education department, too, has come up with many instructions in which rules have been made much easier for parents/students.

Sukhdarshan Singh, President of the Nakal Virodhi Dal here, said no NOC would be  required from private schools in case a student of private school wants to get admission in a government school.

“Earlier many students had suffered because private school managements did not provide them NOCs. But now to adjust and accommodate more students, the department has instructed to make the rules in this regard easy. In addition to this, many grants are regularly coming for infrastructure and better facilities and parents look satisfied to see things improving”, said Singh.

According to instructions, admission in government schools would not be denied if a student doesn’t have a Aadhar. In fact, schools have been directed to get these made for students. Even if those not having birth certificates will get the admission, they will be asked to submit the document as per convenience, later.

Satinder Singh, working as a peon in a hosiery factory in Sunder Nagar said that he had put his son in a government school. “Earlier he was in a private school but since fees were not waived-off and my own salary was deducted for 5-6 months during Covid time, I decided to put him to a government school. And the facilities offered in government schools are at par with many private schools”.
