Students of classes X and XII on Tuesday appeared in first-term exams, introduced by the CBSE for the first time.
The students have already taken exams of minor subjects, while the major exams of Class XII will begin from December 3. The new pattern of examination has brought mixed feelings among students and parents. Many students feel that MCQs introduced for the first time were a new concept and they were not aware of how they would score.
Muskaan, a student, said since it was a new concept, there was a lot of confusion among students on how would the question paper be, how would they score, for this term. “Some students find subjective paper better while many others like the concept of one-word answer. Since children are appearing for the first time and are aware of the system, the Board should provide easy question papers,” she said.
At the same time, parents feel that MCQs were a good concept as students will be given choice of four answers and they are supposed to tick the correct answer. “But still we do not know how they are going to perform. Secondly, they would now be busy till the final exams. After the first term, classes will begin and then schools will start conducting back-to-back exams. The new concept has kept students busy throughout the year,” said a parent.
