Scheme betrayal of youth, Army: Mohali Dy Mayor
Mohali, June 18
The local unit of the Congress today slammed the BJP-led Central government for the Agnipath scheme floated to recruit youth for four years in the Army. The party termed it as a big betrayal of the youth of the country.
While describing it as an insult to the youth and the Indian Army, senior Congress leader and Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi demanded its immediate withdrawal. He said earlier, the BJP government had brought new agricultural laws, which were opposed by farmers. For more than a year, farmers had protested on the Delhi border enduring the heat and cold. More than 700 farmers had martyred in the stir following which the BJP government went back on its decision.
Bedi said now, the BJP government had come up with this recruitment scheme by deceiving the youth, which was being strongly opposed across the country. He demanded that the Centre should immediately withdraw the scheme and focus on regular recruitment. He also appealed to the youth not to damage the public property and protest peacefully, which is their right.
