SC Collegium recommends Justice Narendar G as Uttarakhand HC Chief Justice
The Supreme Court Collegium led by CJI DY Chandrachud on Tuesday recommended Justice Narendar G of the Andhra Pradesh High Court to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court consequent upon the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice Ritu Bahri on October 10.
"The Collegium is of the considered view that Mr Justice Narendar G is fit and suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of the High Court of Uttarakhand," a Collegium resolution stated.
Appointed as a Judge of the Karnataka High Court on January 2, 2015, Justice Narendar G was transferred to the Andhra Pradesh High Court on October 30, 2023 and he has been functioning there since then.
He is the senior-most Judge in his parent High Court of Karnataka and belongs to the Other Backward Class, the resolution said.
Before his elevation as a High Court Judge, he practised before the High Court of Karnataka, it added.
He is an experienced Judge with considerable experience on the judicial and administrative sides of the High Courts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
"At present, the High Court of Karnataka has no representation among the Chief Justices of the High Courts," the Collegium resolution noted.
In two separate resolutions, the Collegium also recommended the appointment of nine advocates as judges of the Bombay High Court.
The advocates recommended for elevation to the Bombay High Court Bench are: Nivedita Prakash Mehta, Prafulla Surendrakumar Khubalkar, Ashwin Damodar Bhobe, Rohit Wasudeo Joshi, Advait Mahendra Sethna, Rajesh Sudhakar Datar, Sachin Shivajirao Deshmukh, Gautam Ashwin Ankhad and Mahendra Madhavrao Nerlikar.
The Collegium also recommended Bihar judicial officers Shashi Bhushan Prasad Singh and Ashok Kumar Pandey to be appointed as Judges of the Patna High Court.
