This initiative is set to benefit over 9,500 children with disabilities (CwD) enrolled in Classes IX to XII across Delhi’s government schools. Currently, only 283 PGTs are available against 301 sanctioned posts, underscoring a significant gap in resources for inclusive education. With 609 government schools serving CwD, the need for qualified special education teachers is critical.
The establishment of these posts aligns with the Right to Education Act, 2009, the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and the National Education Policy, 2020, reinforcing the commitment to inclusive education in Delhi.
Creating these positions followed a thorough assessment process involving the Education, Planning and Finance Departments, culminating in the L-G’s approval. The Services Department will handle the recruitment through the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB).
Saxena emphasised the need to fill vacant positions permanently, moving away from contractual appointments that can lead to favouritism and corruption.
