Sanjauli mosque row: AIMIM leader flayed for ‘unwarranted interference’
Keeping up its effort to restore peace and communal harmony in the state, the Sanjauli Masjid Committee today condemned AIMIM Delhi president Shoaib Jamai for unwarranted “interference”. “The outsiders have no idea about the rapport we share with Hindus in the state. We want outsiders to stay away from the matter,” said Latif Mohammed, president of the Sanjauli Masjid Committee.
As per the committee members, Jamai visited the mosque a day before and shot a video inside the mosque. In the video, which was shared on social video, Jamai is seen questioning the legality of the buildings around the Sanjauli mosque. “The adjacent buildings are of equal height, so how could masjid alone be unauthorized? We will file a PIL in the High Court regarding the matter,” he said.
It may be mentioned here that communal tension had flared up in the state earlier this month when the majority community claimed that the masjid was illegal and demanded its demolition. In response, the local masjid committee had voluntarily offered to remove the unauthorised construction itself if permitted. The decision on the matter is pending in the court of the Shimla MC Commissioner.
“We don’t agree with what Shoaib Jamai has said in his video, and we stand by what we have said earlier on the matter,” said Latif Mohammed. “We urge all parties and individuals to not interfere in the matter. We have already offered to remove the illegal portion of the mosque and we are constantly talking to our Hindu brothers to end the whole issue amicably,” the committee members said.
Meanwhile, members of the Hindu outfit spearheading the protests in the state have taken up the issue of Jamai’s visit and his remarks in the video with the police.
