New Delhi, August 28

In a significant gesture of support, Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Wednesday handed over an appointment letter for a job on compassionate grounds to Rani, the wife of late swachhata sainik, Dhanraj, from the Narela zone. The appointment, as a daily wage sanitation worker, was provided to help the family following the untimely demise of Dhanraj.

The Mayor visited Rani’s residence in Narela, accompanied by Narela Assembly MLA Sharad Chauhan, Ward No. 1 Councillor Shweta Kamal Khatri, Narela Zone Deputy Commissioner Pawan Yadav and other senior officials of the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD). During the visit, Oberoi also presented the family with a cheque for Rs 1,11,000 — a sum collected by local residents to support them during this difficult time.

Oberoi emphasised the commitment of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and the MCD towards the welfare of their employees. “When the local councillor introduced me to the family of the deceased employee and I saw his family, my heart melted,” she said. “I immediately instructed the officials to expedite the process of providing a job to the dependent, as per the rules.”

Oberoi highlighted the AAP government’s focus on community service under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

The Mayor assured that special consideration would be given to Rani, given the presence of a young child in the family. “She will be assigned duties close to her home to ensure she can balance her work and family responsibilities,” Oberoi said.
