Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav today inaugurated various projects and laid foundation stones of others to develop a robust police infrastructure for the benefit of general public and the men in khaki.

Inaugurating a state-of-the-art cybercrime police station here, the DGP said this would serve as a dedicated hub for investigating and combating cyber-related offences, including online financial fraud, identity theft, cyber bullying, hacking, and online scams. The police station was equipped with latest technology and the staff specialised in digital forensics and cybercrime investigation, he added.

The DGP, accompanied by DIG Patiala Range Mandeep Singh Sidhu, took a round of the newly set up police station and interacted with the staff posted there.

A complainant, Ashok Bhandari from Dhuri, also met the DGP during his visit to the Sangrur police station and expressed gratitude for the prompt action taken by the Punjab Police in solving his cyber fraud case. Bhandari was defrauded of Rs 1.29 crore through online trading, but the cyber team of Sangrur recovered Rs 30 lakh after registering an FIR.

Apart from inaugurating the cybercrime police station here, the DGP launched other key initiatives, including an expanded canteen with enhanced seating area for citizens visiting police offices, a public shed providing convenient seating for visitors near the office complex, and a renovated gazetted officers’ mess at the Police Lines here.
