Sangrur farmers protest in front of ministers’ houses

Protesting against tardy paddy procurement, activists of the BKU (Ekta-Ugrahan) today started “pucca morchas” in front of the residences of Cabinet Minister Aman Arora at Sunam and senior BJP leader Arvind Khanna at Sangrur.

They also began such protests in front of the offices of Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema at Dirba and Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal at Lehra.

Indefinite dharna in Muktsar

  • The BKU (Ekta-Ugrahan) on Friday started an indefinite protest outside the residence of Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian at Khuddian Gulab Singh village demanding uninterrupted procurement of paddy
  • Farm leader Gurpash Singhewala said, “Our protest at the poll plaza and outside the house of Agriculture Minister will continue until the government makes arrangements for the paddy storage and procures the crop.”

Meanwhile, there was no change in situation at the two toll plazas where commuters were allowed free passage by protesting farmers yesterday. The commuters continued to cross the toll plazas at Kalajhar village (Bhawanigarh) and Chotian village (Sangrur) without paying any charges even today.

According to BKU (Ekta-Ugrahan) leaders, the toll plazas will remain free till the government accepted their demands. The pucca morchas in front of the residences and offices of the Cabinet ministers and BJP leader would also continue for indefinite period.

The protest in front of BJP leader Arvind Khanna’s residence at Sangrur is being organised by the Sangrur and Dhuri blocks of the union. The protesters are demanding uninterrupted purchase of paddy and its lifting. At the Lehra protest site, farmers demanded relaxation in moisture content norms for in paddy. At Dirba, they complained about shortage of DAP fertiliser.
