Saini visits grain markets, vows timely lifting, MSP for paddy
In response to ongoing complaints from paddy farmers, caretaker Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today visited several grain markets and directed officials to streamline the paddy procurement process. He warned that strict action would be taken against officials responsible for delays or irregularities.
Two officials suspended
- Two officials were suspended for negligence in paddy procurement at Ladwa grain market on Friday.
- As per information, the suspended officials are HAFED’s manager/inspector Kuldeep Jangra and Food and Civil Supplies Inspector Sandeep Ahlawat.
He visited grain markets in Babain, Pipli, and Ladwa and checked the quality and moisture content of the paddy. He interacted with farmers and commission agents, assuring them that all grain would be procured at the minimum support price (MSP).
The CM assured farmers that lifting of their stock would begin on Saturday, and sufficient gunny bags would be available.
Farmers raised concerns about their produce lying in markets for five to eight days and complained about cuts imposed despite the moisture content being below the required 17 per cent. The CM responded firmly, saying: “No stock with 17 per cent or less moisture content should remain unsold. The entire crop must be purchased, lifted, and payments cleared on time. Action will be taken against anyone imposing illegal cuts.”
He added that about 5.25 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of paddy had already been procured in the state, with 1.59 lakh MT lifted. Additionally, 1.31 lakh MT of bajra had been purchased. “We are closely monitoring grain markets, and discussions have been held with rice millers to ensure timely lifting. If local millers don’t lift the stock, other millers can step in.”
Saini also addressed political issues, accusing the Congress of corruption and nepotism. “The people of Haryana see through the Congress’ intentions. Despite their lies, people have chosen the BJP with a clear mandate,” he said.
