Saffron party all the way in Panipat district too
The “textile city” today turned into a jubilant mood after the BJP won all four seats in the district.
The counting started on the Arya College premises in the morning, with the district administration making elaborate security arrangements at the centre.
In the Panipat City assembly, BJP candidate Pramod Vij defeated Congress candidate Varinder Kumar Shah by 35,672 votes. He won consecutively for the second time from here. Vij secured 81,750 votes, while Shah got 46,078 votes.
Similarly in the Panipat Rural constituency, BJP candidate Mahipal Dhanda won by 50,208 votes, the highest margin in all four constituencies in the district, by defeating Congress candidate Sachin Kundu. Mahipal Dhanda got 1,00,881 votes, while Kundu had to contend with 50,673 votes. Independent candidate and Congress rebel Vijay Jain secured 43,244 votes in 20 rounds of counting.
In the Israna (reserved) constituency, BJP candidate and Rajya Sabha member Krishan Lal Panwar was elected MLA for the sixth time on Tuesday and won the election by 13,895 votes by defeating the Congress candidate Balbir Valmiki.
Panwar got 67,538 votes, while the Congress candidate got 13,895 votes.
Panwar had joined the BJP in 2014 and won the seat from here. He was Transport and Jail Minister during the first regime of the BJP government. In 2019, he unsuccessfully contested the election, but the BJP sent him to the Rajya Sabha.
In the Samalkha constituency, BJP candidate Manmohan Bhadana won by 19,315 votes by defeating Congress candidate Dharam Singh Chhoker. After winning from here, the BJP also succeeded in opening its account for the first time in the Samalkha constituency.
BJP’s Manmohan got a total of 81,295 votes, while his close contestant Congress candidate and two-time MLA Dharam Singh Chhoker got 61,978 votes from here.
