A mini marathon was organised in Dharamsala today as part of Wildlife Week.

The marathon began at the synthetic track of the Youth Services and Sports Department, with the participants returning to the synthetic track via Cheelgadi and Kunal Pathri Mata.

About 100 people took part in the mini marathon, which was 5 km for women and 8 km for men.

Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF), Wildlife Department (Dharamsala), Saroj Bhai Patel said, in the marathon, Sadhana Chaudhary bagged first place in the women’s category, while Nancy Chaudhary stood second and Gargi Sharma third.

In the men’s category, Aneesh Chaudhary bagged the first place, while Surendra and Vikram Singh bagged the second and third places, respectively.

The first prize winner in the marathon was awarded Rs 7,000, the second prize winner Rs 5,000, and the third prize winner Rs 3,000.

Patel said all participants were given certificates.

With the objective of spreading awareness about wildlife, the 73rd Wildlife Week was being celebrated from October 2 to October 8 this year, he added.

During the week, various types of activities — including speech and painting competitions, and a marathon — were being organised by the department, he said.
