Rushad Rana, who was last seen in Mehendi Wala Ghar and Miya Biwi Aur Murder on MX Player, was recently seen in the movie Ulajh, starring Janhvi Kapoor. He says with the rise of OTT platforms, new avenues have opened up and this is the best time to be part of showbiz, as many creative people now have the opportunity to showcase their talent.

“I think the rise of OTT platforms has definitely created a lot of opportunities for creative people — actors, technicians, writers, directors. A whole new avenue has opened up. Earlier, it only used to be TV and movies,” he says.

He adds, “The availability of diverse roles has definitely affected my choices. But at the same time, I also feel that there is quite a bit of typecasting that happens, which one needs to consciously try and break out of, even on OTT platforms. To give you an example, I did a show called Mia, Bibi or Murder, in which I played an out-and-out don. They gave me a very different look with a scar on my face and all that. Now, that was because of the maker’s conviction that they essay such a role, otherwise I’m always stuck with the good boy image, the NRI image, which sometimes I feel like I would like to break out of because as an actor there is definitely more that I have to offer.”
