RTI activist writes book on child abuse
The book, ‘Sisakta Bachpan’, which sheds light on the lives of exploited and oppressed children, was recently released by Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (HSCPCR) chairperson Parveen Joshi at Rohtak.
The book, written by noted RTI activist Subhash, is based on various crimes committed against children.
“Working with Childline gave me the opportunity to look into the different kinds of crimes against children. In six years, nearly 2,500 cases of child abuse were reported on Childline in Rohtak, of which 32 cases are mentioned in this book,” states Subhash.
The author feels that as the incidents of child exploitation and abuse continue to rise, it appears that our society is becoming increasingly insensitive toward children.
“The more we modernise, the crueler we seem to become towards children. It is unfortunate that a so-called civilised society remains silent on crimes committed against children,” he laments, pointing out that the children who were victims of poverty, hunger, social abuse and discrimination were the most vulnerable to exploitation.
Subhash points out that human trafficking had emerged as a serious issue.
Children working in hazardous industries, scavenging garbage and serving at roadside eateries and tea stalls remained invisible to their eyes, he observed.
The author reveals that the social organisations, which usually staged protest demonstrations even over minor incidents, might also remain silent in certain cases if it did not suit their vested/political interest(s).
