Jalandhar: The enforcement wing of the PSPCL has booked a dhaba owner for tampering meter reading. It had received information that certain employees of the PSPCL and outsourced billing company Sterling Transformers in connivance with a commercial consumer were concealing the meter reading. They put the suspected employees on surveillance and tracked their activities. The dhaba owner was manipulating his meter reading with the help of PSPCL and the outsourced company employees. He was doing this since January 2020. There was a concealment of more than 24,000 units thus defrauding PSPCL of approximately of Rs2 lakh. He cleverly managed to get two commercial meters on his premises. Role of other PSPCL officials is under scanner, said Rajit Sharma, Deputy Chief Engineer, Enforcement, Jalandhar. Meanwhile, a fine of Rs7.5 lakh has been slapped on the consumer. The meter inspector of PSPCL has been suspended in the case. Venu Parsad, CMD, PSPCL, has directed the enforcement wing to act tough on corrupt officials. TNS
