Rs 50 crore released for infrastructure upgrade at 19,000 schools
Over 19,000 school in Punjab have got Rs 50 crore grant for upgrading infrastructure under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
The intimation in this regard was sent to all district education officers on Tuesday. The funds for 2024-25 have been released by the Union Government.
Of the total funds, Rs 34.92 crore has been released to 15,358 government primary and middle schools in the state. For 3,802 high and senior secondary government schools, Rs 15.39 crore has been released. The grant will be used for the replacement of non-functional school equipment and incurring recurring costs.
The money will also be used for annual maintenance and repair of school buildings. At least 10 per cent of this amount will be spent on the Swachh Bharat Campaign.
Ludhiana schools have got around Rs 4.66 crore, followed by Amritsar (Rs 3.79 crore), Patiala (Rs 3.37 crore), Jalandhar (Rs 3.34 crore), Hoshiarpur (Rs 3.17 crore), Faridkot (Rs 1.27 crore) and Malerkotla (Rs 63 lakh).
